The Spencer Steadman Trust was created to support the education of children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in a number of ways. We work with students from primary school age through to higher education, backing both traditional academic subjects as well as music and the arts, and providing financial support in a number of ways – from grants and bursaries, through to funding specific one-off projects.
The SST is proud to be working in partnership with the education charity Ark which shares our belief in the transformative power of education and our passion for ensuring that all children, regardless of their background, should have the opportunities that come with high-quality, well-resourced teaching.
Ark has a proven track record of success. From working with just one school fourteen years ago, it has grown into a network of 38 schools in the UK, , improving the life chances of thousands of children.
The specific causes that The Spencer Steadman Trust is supporting this year are:
Sixth Form IT Suite at Ark John Keats Academy, Enfield
Ark John Keats Academy in Enfield, north east London, educates 1,700 students aged 3-18. 41% are eligible for Pupil Premium; 49% have English as an additional language.
The sixth form at the school is oversubscribed so Ark are constructing a new sixth form centre which will allow the school to double the sixth form intake to 300 students.
Part of this development will be a computer suite, providing students with a dedicated, first-class facility. They will have access to the best IT resources, that will support them to achieve results needed for the UK’s best universities. The SST will fully fund this hugely important resource for the school
Fully Funded University Bursaries
Ark University Bursaries are available to ensure that all students, regardless of background, can access the university or career of their choice when they leave school. SST has chosen to support fully funded bursaries so that those most in need of financial support can benefit. These bursaries will go towards all aspects of university life from accommodation and books/equipment to basic living costs. Crucially it also enables students to dedicate themselves to studies rather than having to spend a lot of time doing jobs on the side to help fund their place. We look forward to following the progress of students through their chosen universities and beyond.
